About me:

About my hippo:

  • The strange creature in the image above is a stuffed hippopotamus named Bagel that my father brought back from one of his trips to Germany when I was young.

Work

  • I am a PhD student in Computer Science at the University of Michigan. See my professional home page for more info.
  • Before I came to Ann Arbor I was at the University of Maryland. I graduated in May, 2003 with a BS in Computer Science and Mathematics and then worked for two years as a full-time research assistant with Philip Resnik.

Play

When I'm not working, I spend most of my time singing and playing music and dancing. This semester I'm singing with the Early Music Ensemble in the School of Music; I also sing with the Cynnabar Collegium Musicum. I coordinate the nascent and as-yet unnamed Cynnabar dance band and play 14th-16th century dance music (dances from Playford, Arbeau, Caroso, Negri, etc.) on mandolin, Irish bouzouki, recorder, and occassional percussion. I also sing and play a wider variety of whatever-we-feel-like (but mostly traditional folk) with some of the members of the Cynnabar groups. I've been known to dance the odd Renaissance dance but spend most of my dancing time learning swing.
